Direction of pattern on a furniture fabric in a roll
Most likely, when ordering a upholstery fabric with a pattern, you are faced with the fact that the print can go up the roll or railroaded. We constantly receive from our customers questions with a request to clarify the location of the picture on the roll.
Many have seen or heard these terms in the textile industry, but they still can not fully understand what they really mean. Therefore, let's clarify all the nuances associated with the arrangement of the pattern on the roll. This will save you time and money the next time you order!
To start a little general information ...
• Most furniture fabrics have a width of 140 ± 2 cm and are wound on tubes to prevent creases.
• Edge is a narrow strip along the share edge of the furniture fabric (along the warp yarns), which is distinguished by the production.
• On the EDEN website, the direction of the picture on the product card is always indicated on the product card for your convenience.
Up the roll means that the pattern is made vertically.
There is another way to understand this ... Imagine, for example, a fabric with a strip. And now mentally start to unwrap the roll. If the strip runs parallel to the edge and perpendicular to the tuba, this means that the pattern of this fabric is directed along the roll.
Choosing a fabric with this direction of the pattern for making the head of the bed or sewing curtains, you can avoid unwanted horizontal seams. Such fabrics provide a continuous vertical length, but are limited in width. When ordering furniture fabrics, consider this in order to calculate the required quantity for your product.
Railroaded means that the pattern on the fabric is made horizontally from the edge to the edge. If you start to unfold such a fabric, you will see that the strip runs parallel to the tube and perpendicular to the edge. This can be compared with the railway tracks.
Fabrics with a cross pattern are well suited for upholstery of large sofas, large items of furniture, as well as pillows.
Suppose that you would like the band on the couch to be located along the entire length. For such tasks, a fabric with a railroaded pattern is best.
Of course, there are a number of fabric designs or models of sofas, for which the layout of the pattern is not fundamentally in the roll. In such cases, you can at your discretion to cut the fabric. Nevertheless, it is always useful to know such nuances in order to properly calculate the need for upholstery for certain products.
